Aquis Exchange PLC is looking to hire a keen Linux system administrator. The prospective candidate will be part of a highly technical team working to maintain and enhance the existing Aquis trading platforms as well as supporting clients with their implementation of Aquis Technology solutions. This is a key role with huge scope to learn new skills, and work with multiple teams.
- The successful candidate will be part of a team of highly experienced Linux Sysadmins responsible for the smooth running of all internal systems (Exchange platforms) and associated systems:
- Deployment and Maintenance of Software/OS/hardware using systems and configuration management tools (RH Satellite, ansible, etc.).
- Systems capacity planning; creating and maintaining a scalable system for Dev, QA, Test and Production environments.
- Manage backups and archiving systems / scripts.
- Patching / patch plans and implementation.
- Manage monitoring systems such as SolarWinds / Nagios.
- Projects working with the infrastructure and dev teams to enhance and improve the current technology to maintain a competitive advantage for the trading platforms as well as Aquis Technology’s suite of products. Areas include topics such as low latency tuning, build specification, research of new products and services, deployment tools, cloud implementation and distribution mechanisms.
- Assist the internal 1st line Linux support team where necessary:
- Supporting the exchange platforms during market hours, troubleshooting operational issues or assisting with upgrades.
- Participation in the support rota (coverage from 7am to 6.30pm) may be required during busy periods. (Early/Late shift cover as needed)
- Train / Mentor the 1st line team to improve their skills.
- Assist Aquis Exchange Technology clients through the lifecycle of the implementation process:
- Initial specifications / RFP
- Installation / knowledge transfer / on-site support
- Integration with clients own existing systems – work with their infra teams as well as our projects and dev team to provide solutions.
- Provide Linux support and assistance to DevOps team.
- Prepare and maintain up to date documentation.
- Out-of-hour’s work will be required on occasion, including ad-hoc datacentre visits.
- 6+ years system administration experience within a RedHat (or RH derivative such as CentOS / Rocky Linux) based environment.
- Proficiency with Build, CI/CD systems and especially GIT.
- Previous experience with low latency systems or financial experience desirable.
- Scripting with Python and bash essential, other languages a bonus.
- Prior experience with cloud environments desirable (AWS / GCP). Terraform experience a bonus but not necessary.
- Database administration in replicated environments, (MySQL, Elastic, etc), Able to craft basic SQL queries.
- Webserver technologies, nginx, NodeJS, JavaScript, Python, Tomcat.
- Packaging and maintaining software in an RPM based environment.
- Building and maintaining RH based systems - PXEboot, kickstart, DNS, Ansible, RH Satellite highly desirable.
- Advanced networking skills via NetworkManager - VLANs, routing, load balancing, multicast, etc. desirable.
- Experience with backup systems (Veeam or similar).
- Proficiency with virtualisation software and configuration (e.g. VMware, Nutanix, Proxmox).
- Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills. Able to interact with multiple technical teams at different organisations.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills, with passionate attention to detail.
- Demonstrate good judgement in solving problems as well as identifying problems in advance and proposing solutions.

In this role you will work with the Product team, Infrastructure team, and QA team, to produce highly maintainable, efficient, and highly reliable code. Your goal will be to develop software, including webapps and desktop, which handle large amount data to trade on, monitor, and control a highly efficient technology used by several markets around the world, including ourselves.
• Designs, codes, tests, integrates, and documents scalable front-end applications and APIs.
• Collaborates with UX designers to translate wireframes and mock-ups into high-quality, responsive applications.
• Provides technical leadership to more junior employees and other teams.
• Participate as a Subject Matter Expert in internal review of software components and systems.
• Apply and champion the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the system development life cycle to support the generation of technical engineering products.
• Keep abreast of technology trends and champion new ideas and process improvements.
• 5+ years development experience in frontend development, ideally with at least 2 years in a senior role.
• Expertise in JavaScript/TypeScript with React.
• Deep knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, and web fundamentals (accessibility, security, performance, responsive design, cross-browser compatibility etc.).
• Experience designing and developing data driven applications (ideally, but not necessarily, for finance/trading use cases).
• Experience implementing unit, integration, and end-to-end testing.
• Comfortable developing on WSL/Linux.
• Python development knowledge is a plus; you will need to work with Python APIs.
• Good understanding of version control and CI/CD pipelines.
• Knowledge of capital markets technologies, protocols, and standards will help but not mandatory.
• Understanding of cloud technology, and Infrastructure as Code is also a plus.
• Most importantly, a drive to solve complex technological problems with a great team of talented developers.

• 10+ years development experience in >= C++11 and Boost creating performant, scalable applications.
• 6+ years of experience in networking (UDP, Multicasting, TCP, etc...), messaging, and algorithms.
• 6+ years of experience on Linux systems.
• Good understanding of modern development best practices and methodologies
• Python development knowledge is a plus.
• Knowledge of capital markets technologies, protocols, and standards will help but not mandatory.
• Some understanding and usage of cloud technology is a plus but not mandatory.
